Not sure how this will turn out...I got the recipe from a friend.
1 pork butt
1 vadalia onion
1 can coke
1 large potato
1 pack onion soup mix
chop the onion put in crock
put the butt in next
chop potato, put in crock around meat.
Mix the soup packet and the coke together
pour the coke soup mixture over the meat and potatos
cook on low for 8 to 10 hours..
I poked some holes in the butt and stuffed 4 garlic cloves in the holes.
Got one going today....we shall see..

Re: Wierd combo
11/24Sounds like one of my crazy recipes I come up with. Anything with a soup mix, veggie, and meat can't go wrong. Lemme know how it turns out Kent! -

Re: Wierd combo
11/25How did it go Kent?
(soda breaks down the proteins in tougher cuts of meat and "tenderizes" them...just lke they can "tenderize" the enamel on your teeth!) -

Re: Wierd combo

Re: Wierd combo
11/25Congrats, Kent. Yeah, I've done a few variations on this theme. My all-time favorite is so simple. I use a beef roast (usually a seven bone because, well, it's CHEAP) a package of Lawry's spaghetti sauce mix (you can use generic, too), a can of diet Dr. Pepper (I don't like the extra sugar but I do like the sweetness) and a few veggies, like onion, carrot and potato. Throw it in and let it go all day. Good stuff and the meat is fork tender.
Let us know how the mutton fares, will ye'?
Love and light, dear ones.

Re: Wierd combo
12/16Hey, Kent -
I tried this with a pork shoulder and it was out of this world! I added two tablespoons of very hot garlic salsa and it added some zip (I just love spicy food)
Thanks for sharing the recipe.
