So, lately i've been thinking about incorporating indian food diet principles..into my erm diet.
So basically i've got a slow cooker
some beef i got from the local organic store
potatoes
i need an idea for an indian..except they wouldn't eat beef(epiphany) if they are hindu..so keyword INSPIRED
any extra ideas on other vegtables and spices to add?

Re: indian food-inspired idea
Sun, January 27, 2008 - 6:30 AMI have no experience with this but I'll hazard a guess
like lamb
a tomato based curry
peas
potato
like a beef stew or goulash but with Indian spices

Tue, January 29, 2008 - 5:23 AMOh - easy and tasty but I am going off the top of my head so I don't have all the proportions...
This was from www.vegweb.com for other ideas - and I tweaked it a bit
Not originally a crockpot recipe, but I add rice to it and a bit more liquid and let it go for a couple of hours.
Indian Dal
1 cup small red lentils - rinsed
1 cup rice
1 medium onion - sliced thinly
1 small hot pepper - chopped - don't touch your eyes!
2 cloves garlic (or more if you like garlic)
spices:
1 teaspoon cumin,
1 teaspoon coriander,
1/8 teaspoon cardamom,
1/4 teaspoon cayenne,
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder,
1/8 teaspoon ginger,
1 teaspoon salt and
1/4 teaspoon pepper
4 cups water or broth
- and your beef in chunks if you want.
Mix it all in your crockpot and let go on low for 3-4 hours - check the rice to see if it is cooked...
- chopped spinach to add at the end
Hope that inspires!
