OK, i dont normally buy these type of things but my boyfriend and I both have really long commutes, so i thouht I'd give it a try. so we picked up the chicken and dumplings and chicken noodle soup. Who knows? could be good? NOT THE CASE. I came home last night only to find the nastiest food in my crock pot. The chicken was weird, the sauce smelled really bad, and the whole thing was just terrible!! So do not try it! I ended up throwing it down the sink and to make it worse, its not THAT cheap. 7 or 8 bucks! I am returning the chicken noodle soup to the grocery store, something I have never done, but it really is THAT bad. Just reassures me that I should continue to use fresh ingredients and make my own meals :) Just wanted to warn you all!

Jill, packaged is NEVER better than the real thing. My soon-to-be-ex sister-in-law is a food scientist. She's worked for BIG companies like General Mills, ConAgra and Hunt-Wesson formulating (yep, you guessed it) packaged foods. Like the Marie Callender dinners... but she wasn't involved in those, I think. She's done a bunch of them and, I'll be honest, I was leery of eating them before she married into my family. Now, whoa, I wouldn't touch most of them with a ten foot irradiated, sterile pole. They're, well, crap!
So sorry you had such trouble but, if I may, try my mother's easy chicken and dumplings recipe from this thread:

I'll confess, there's some packaged stuff in there. I won't say I never use packaged foods. But, when I do, I make sure the ingredients are quality. Why save twenty cents on a can of soup when the more expensive one makes you feel so good when you eat it?
Love and light, dear ones.

It's not just Marie Callender crockpot bags. They're all filth. And honestly, how much harder is it to stick a couple of chicken breasts in the crockpot, do a large (and I mean large) dice on the potatoes, cut 3 carrots into chunks, slice the onion a 1/2" thick, and pour some cream of something and a bunch of water or milk over it?
I know, I really wanted those crockpot bags to work too. But they just don't.

Yeah, I am never trying them. Plus, there is a lot of salt and such in them and that's the sort of stuff I am slowly starting to steer away from.

I was curious about these once so I posted, asking about it, in this tribe. Sorry that you actually tried it because these warnings would have been good advice.

Someone also posted about how gross these are after trying them. Hopefully this new thread will stop people from trying these out.
