What are your favorite Crockpot recipes for Thanksgiving? Have you tried mashed potatoes or stuffing or gravy in it? I'm just trying to figure out which dish I should prepare in it to keep the stove and oven free...

  • I cook my collards in my crockpot.
    • we are in a jam because we always cook thanksgiving for our friends but we only have a toaster oven, crock pot and rotisserie in the current living situation. no stove. i'm eager to hear ideas. we really don't want to go anywhere else OR order out.
      • if your friends expect you to cook can't you use their stove? what happened to your stove? how many people do you have to cook for without a stove? maybe you could concentrate on cold dishes? cranberry sauce is cold and Thanksgivingy. i liked the idea of bird on rotis., mashed in crock, what was in the toaster oven? stuffing? i would think that would get dry. maybe you could make an appetizer in the toaster oven like mini egg rolls. or a spinach dip? pizza bites? actually, you have the right equipment for superbowl sunday but not really for Thanksgiving. let us know how it all turns out!
  • i did a turkey breast in my crockpot once. it was really good and moist.
you can make desserts or have a hot cider for your guests.
i made bread pudding once, so i'm sure stuffing would be super easy.
  • Have you searched allrecipes.com slowcooker recipes? I bought the cookbook (shopping.allrecipes.com/produc...ail.asp highly recommend it!) and it's got a lot of meals that would be great for Thanksgiving. There's turkey recipes, mashed potatoes, casseroles, plus they've got guidelines on how to convert oven-casserole dishes to the crockpot.

Here's some from a quick search I did:
    Mashed potatoes allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slo...Detail.aspx
    "Baked" chicken allrecipes.com/Recipe/Bak...Detail.aspx
    Turkey allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slo...Detail.aspx
    Chicken dressing allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slo...Detail.aspx
    Stuffing allrecipes.com/Recipe/Slo...Detail.aspx

And no.. I do not work for allrecipes, although they are local (Seattle). :) I've just found they're the best resource for slow cooker recipes and very search-able as well as the comments help me modify recipes to my own taste.
    • Great resource, Tri. Thank you! My mom always made dressing in the crockpot, I'll dig up her recipe and share it here. I've heard that you can make mashed potatoes ahead of time and then just reheat and serve in the crockpot. Anyone ever try this?

Jordan you can do the turkey (or a capon or chicken or whatever) on the rotisserie, taters in the crockpot and dressing in the toaster oven! Those little one-burner Korean stoves that run on butane are pretty cheap - perhaps you can use one of those to make the gravy. To me Thanksgiving without gravy is - well - Burning Man without bacon!

      Cheers,
      T
      • My mom always makes the smashies and the stuffing ahead and puts them in the crockpots to stay warm and to cook, respectively.

I like the crunchy bits along the liner edge.

I made mashed potatoes in advance, put them in a baking dish and when the turkey was cooling I threw it in the oven. Worked out beautifully! It heated all the way through and I didn't have to take up unnecessary space. :)
        • Ya'll are serious *GENIUSES*...I bow down before ya'll's crockpots...
          *OHM* *OHM* *OHM*....
I've only tried greens...collard greens with fatback...*YES..I"M NC!!** I can't help it..pork fat and grease....it must be in my blood...
  • My mom always made Au Gratin Potatoes in her crock. They were always great. I'd get the recipe but it most likely starts with go to Smart & Final and buy a box of (brand name here) Au Gratin Potatoes. Crisp some bacon. Put everything in the crockpot and cook 4-6 hours on High. I'd ask her but my mom and dad are traveling at the moment (and are not answering their cell.)
